STATEMENT BY THE ARCHITECT

The proposed construction and renovation schematically presented by the adjacent drawings revitalizes the embodied energy of the original Dartmouth Outing Club House and directs the focus of social activities to the south sun and Occom Pond. Upgrading existing structures to meet contemporary programmatic and environmental demands places this project within the International, National and Dartmouth College goals for a sustainable future.
The Pond level will continue to house Outdoor Programs ski and skate rentals and stored seasonal gear for their activities centered at the Club House. New bathrooms, wood pellet fired boiler, and electrical service will serve the entire facility.
Entry level Porch, Cabin and Trail Room, Club Room and pond side Porch will be restored to rejuvenate their original solid, quiet beauty. The east wing will be completely renovated to create a coat room, barrier free bathrooms, and a multi-user kitchen.
The gem of this effort is a beautiful Dining Room featuring a generous volume of space similar to the Club Room which will feature a wall of windows and bay to the south providing natural light and views to Occom Pond. The Dining Room will have direct access to a pond side terrace which will be joined with the lower level terrace by way of an elegant stone garden stair.
The Dartmouth College and Hanover community will continue to have a special spot to hold formal, casual, commemorative, and celebratory social activities within and around this strong quiet building for many future generations.
The construction cost for the entire project is estimated at $3.0 million. To date we have obtained construction cost pledges of approximately $0.9 million as well as an endowment of $1.5 million, the annual income from which will cover ongoing maintenance and operation of the house. Accordingly, assuming the preliminary construction cost estimates are reasonably accurate, our total remaining fundraising goal is approximately $2.1 million.
